The M2 Ultra studio is dead silent, and has ample processing power for 2023 computing needs. The 1TB storage is exceptionally fast. To be honest, most people’s needs can be met with a Mac Mini with M2, but the extra cores, GPU, and RAM that come standard on the Studio with M2 Ultra add a lot of speed. I tend to keep my Macs for a long time, so I bought “more than I need” to prolong the useful life of the computer.
I don’t do anything that needs this class of computer, it was more a buy once and cry once situation for me.
Those who do a lot of “creative” work will see massive gains from the M2 Ultra for photo editing and movie editing where this machine truly excels. I’m merely a hobbyist at those endeavors, so the extra speed is a nice to have, but not essential for me.
Overall, this is a fantastic piece of hardware for anyone with processor intensive needs. I’ve stressed the CPU by running some BOINC applications (Einstein @ Home) running CPU at 100% and the system was still responsive. The fans never sped up, and despite the air blowing out the back being pretty warm, it showed no signs of distress. I’m rather impressed, and also out $4k for a computer that is overkill for my computing needs.
The Mac Studio M2 Ultra is a graphical workstation class machine. As said before, most would be well served by a Mini, but the extra RAM, CPU &. GPU cores, and storage that comes standard on the Studio make a compelling, if expensive, upgrade.
The machine itself is a 5/5.
The value is more like 4/5, in typical Apple fashion, RAM and storage are expensive; there’s A LOT of power here, but you pay for it for sure.
Best Buy’s shipping gets 2/5 for not shipping it until the day before the “get it by” date.
UPS gets 0/5 stars for 2 delays on shipment. When one has to be home to sign for the delivery, that’s a massive inconvenience. Pick it up in-store instead of relying on the shipping if you want no unpleasant surprises.

Do not use their upgrade plus service if there is even a chance you will be returning this product. BestBuy and CitizensPay cannot seem to process a simple refund back to the loan. You will have go out of your way to get both companies to talk to each other to try and get them to figure a refund. The loan company will hound you for payments on an item refunded almost 2 months ago. Terrible service so far.

Keep in mind that I upgraded from a 2011 Mac Pro (desktop tower) that still works fine but is too old for many software updates, including Mac OS. The Mac Studio M2 Ultra has stunning speed compared to the old Mac that I have. It also is super quiet; when the monitors are in sleep mode, I can’t even tell that the computer is on. SSDs are, of course, silent compared to disk drives. But the fans on the Mac Studio are super quiet as well. So far, the Mac Studio has performed consistent will all the positive comments I’ve seen online.
