This game is deeply flawed. While the gameplay is mediocre, there are so many aspects of this game that went neglected. For one, the story mode is lacking (and the story itself is so unbearably bad, but I guess we don’t play games for the story). But the mechanics of unlocking items in this game is agonizingly frustrating: it costs half a million “gems” to unlock each accessory in full, which is insane when you consider that you get a measly 150 gems per match – and sometimes they don’t give you any gems if you’ve won the match too quickly, it ends in a draw, or there are more rounds to play. And if you want to beat the game on “expert” mode, be ready to lose a ton of gems and not get any payoff when you’ve beaten it. Finally, you can’t even change who you’re playing against in this game: if you have a computer opponent, it will ALWAYS be White unless you’ve selected that.
In the end, this is the worst Bomberman game I’ve played. Too many “little things” went neglected during the development of the game, and it shows. This was the first game I got on the Switch, and the one I was most excited about, but it’s a far cry from Bomberman 64, which is 20 years older but 20 times better.
