The LG – XBOOM XL7 Portable Tower Speaker is amazing and well worth the monies.
Speaker itself is easy to move around due to the wheels built into the device. I can also extend the handle on top to move it like luggage. I roll it out to the pool and it is awesome.
Setup and connection – very simple and easy to use. I was able to get it connected to my phone within seconds without issues. It plays and sounds great and easy to change the LED screen above the speaker with a few different choices and designs.
Sound Quality is equally surprising and enjoyable. Bass is rich and the music is very clear. I was able to play music quickly from my phone. I downloaded the LG XBOOM software and withing a couple of minutes music was playing as needed for my Pool Party.
The kids love the colors and the lights that flash as the music is playing. We played the speaker for several hours over the weekend and never plugged it in. Definitely played over 10 hours over the weekend without fail.
Great speaker which is water resistant, I wouldn’t hesitate to take this on a boat on the lake or to a pool party.
You can’t go wrong with this choice, I honestly cannot say enough about how amazing this speaker is for keeping all of us entertained for hours.

With tons of Bluetooth speakers out there, it’s hard to stand out from the rest. This LG XBOOM definitely is the life of the party! It’s tall, lights up with different animations, is extremely portable with the suitcase style handle and wheels, and is extremely loud with solid bass. If that’s not enough, you can announce your presence by connecting a microphone or instrument such as guitar.
The battery life is rated for 20 hours and I’ve been using it on and off for about a week and I just needed to plug it in to charge from full battery.
There is slight customization with the companion app and it’s easy to program certain texts, colors, and animations to show on the front face of the speaker.
The sound is BOOMING! I had a weekend brunch with my family, brought out this speaker, and wowed them all. The bass is incredibly deep while there is little distortion at high volumes in the mid and upper ranges.
There are capacitive buttons on the unit itself for volume, power, and to toggle certain animations but I usually use the app for everything except power.
Overall, this speaker definitely brings life to the party!

The speaker is a breeze to pair via blue-tooth, it was very simple to download the LG APP and customize the sound and visuals.
The size is perfect, its a little on the tall side but the weight and shape make it easy to transport. The luggage style handle is great to move the speaker from spot to another without breaking your back. The design is very nice to look at, rounded corners and the graphics are very fun to look at while the music is playing. The graphics and versatility on changing the color cycle and the animated graphics doesn’t improve the sound but does add to a livelier situation.
The app is very easy to navigate and the animations and color are simple to change and customize. I do hope they release different animations later on but it is fun.
The sound is full, rich and has a very solid bass sound to it. At the loudest levels i did not experience distortion. The battery level did last 18 hours, cumulative not straight, with the sound boost option and the graphics going.
I definitely recommend it as a great sounding speaker and extremely fun to look at in the background.

LG wants you to bring the party with its XBOOM XL7 Bluetooth speaker. With a reverberating sound, eye-catching lighting features, and easy portability, the XBOOM XL7 can be your do-it-all entertainment hub.
Standing over two-feet tall and weighing in at almost 35 lbs., the XBOOM XL7 truly is extra large and catches your eye right off the bat. Big buttons and a smooth, curved surface create a simple, approachable design that doesn’t need a lot of instruction to get going. I especially like the big, sturdy wheels and collapsible, locking handle which lend to its easy mobility even despite its large size. While Bluetooth is the most likely connection option for most people, the XBOOM XL7 has a covered panel on the back of the speaker which hides some Line-Ins for a microphone and a guitar, as well as a USB input for direct music play from a USB storage device. You can even highlight the music track if Karaoke is your thing using the dials on the back.
Showcasing 250 watts pumping out of an 8″ full range woofer, you will feel the music that basically overtakes everything nearby. Even at a low volume, the bass will vibrate into its surroundings. The bright lights really pop, and they will become a party favorite with all the different pattern options from which you can choose at the push of a button. Playing music from a laptop, tablet, or mobile device through Bluetooth is as easy as ever, with no discernable connectivity issues on my end. I’d say the XBOOM XL7 is a “set-and-forget” type of device, except it really is going to be the most eye-catching object in any room, firepit circle, campground, dance hall, or party where it sits and provides the entertainment.
The speaker comes with a removable A/C cord to charge it when not in use or to keep continuous power going outside of a very respectable 20+ hour battery life. It is also packaged with a ferrite core clip to reduce low-frequency noise, absorb high-frequency noise, and produce cleaner sound. With an IPX4 water resistant rating, the XBOOM XL7 can be used outdoors and poolside so you don’t have to worry. Overall, LG has your party covered with an amazing device.
A portable powerhouse for music and lights, the XBOOM XL7 speaker packs even more features with mic and guitar connectivity on the go. The XBOOM XL7 is everything you need to get the party started and keep it going.

The sleek and attractively styled LG Boom XL7 is a fun to use and highly capable party speaker. The rolling form factor reminds me of a carry-on suitcase. A retractable telescoping handle extends to allow easy rolling transport via the built-in wheels. The speaker is slightly heavy to lift and carry, yet easy to roll. The primary controls are conveniently accessible on the top of the speaker and additional controls and external inputs are neatly concealed in a cavity on the back, thanks to a cleverly designed magnetic cover. The cover conceals the mic, guitar, USB, and power cord inputs when they are not in use and flips down to expose the inputs when needed. It attaches magnetically to the rear of the speaker while flipped down. I store the power cord inside a small net pouch on the bottom back of the speaker.
The XL7 has a built in rechargeable battery which provides hours of continuous nonstop use with no significant impact on battery life. The speaker can also operate using AC power if the battery is drained or if AC is preferred. The battery is rated for 20 hours of use, which based upon my usage experience so far, seems fairly accurate. Remaining battery level can be viewed within the LG XBoom companion app. The battery fully recharges from nearly empty in about three hours.
The XL7 is perfectly suited for just about any type event, from a small intimate gathering to a large rollicking party. It’s loud enough to fill a large room, hall, or yard and has very good audio quality. Bass hits hard with deep resonance and is accompanied by clear highs and nicely balanced mids. The XL7 pairs easily with smart devices and has a party mode that allows multiple smartphones to stream to the speaker. It can also link with other Bluetooth enabled speakers. Music can either be streamed via Bluetooth or played from a USB storage device. There are also guitar and mic inputs for those who prefer to either make their own music or play/sing along, including utilizing the built-in karaoke feature. Just note, the mic and guitar inputs are both 6.3mm, not the smaller 3.5mm style typically found on PCs and handheld devices. Minor splashes or other light moisture exposure won’t ruin the fun thanks to an IPX4 rating. As long as the speaker isn’t completely soaked or submerged.
The Boom has an app driven DJ mode for additional party fun, and snazzy LED lighting effects help complete the party atmosphere. The woofer is illuminated with multicolor active lighting and there are flashing LED strobes on the front. There are also pixel animations above the woofer which can be changed among several presets or user customized within the app. Customized text phrases can be programmed to scroll in a selected pattern or alternate between several random animated patterns. Special characters provided by the app and emojis can be included. For example, I’d likely use lines like “Happy Birthday (Name)” or “Congratulations (Name)” with appropriate emojis for birthdays or celebratory events. There is even a setting to allow the users smartphone LED to flash in sync with the speaker lights. Lighting and animation can be disabled if desired.
The LG XBoom companion app allows users to change lighting/animations, adjust sound, apply firmware updates, enable and manage features like DJ and Karaoke modes, among other features. It has an EQ mode with two sound presets and a 3-channel equalizer to help achieve preferred optimal sound. The app is available for iOS and Android and does not require creation of an account to use. It is easy and intuitive to navigate and provides everything necessary to maximize the speaker’s potential for a fun and memorable event. Even if not throwing a party, the XL7 is a nice speaker to listen to while lounging or working around the house or in the yard.

Okay, so out of the box this thing was pretty impressive. It had simple instructions, easy to hookup to my iPhone via the LG XBOOM app and the speaker was about 70% charged out of the box. It comes with the charging cable also just incase yours isn’t that charged. Once downloading the app, I was able to access some fun features including custom party lighting and my favorite part, the options to write a custom phrase or to choose from one of the preloaded images to scroll through on the front of the speaker. It has a handle on the top that slides up and down to allow for easy mobility. The speakers weighs in just over 30 pounds so with the wheels and handle addition, that was very smart on LG’s part.
Sound quality I thought was great for such a smaller scaled speaker. It has the 8” subwoofer which gives a decent bass sound but over all with volume, the speaker never once cracked or sounded flawed. Nice and clear and definitely loud.
It has a rubber panel on the back of the speaker which covers the hookups for the charger cable, a usb device and has hookups for a mic and guitar. The rubber door helps protect the open ports of you have the speaker near water. It does have a waterproof rating of IPX4 so it can be splashed and survive but don’t you try to dump it in the water, that won’t end well, lol. You also have top control buttons which control the power, bass boost options, volume, party link and Bluetooth connection.
The party link I will say is awesome. My brother in law bought the same speaker and with a push of the button they connected and I was able to control them via the app. On the app it will allow you to use the party link mode as either a right and left speaker combined OR allows you to have them play the exact same music at a fair distance apart.
Overall, I’d say at the on sale price of $499 this is definitely a great purchase. The original pricing of $599 to me is a bit much but overall with the features is still justified for the price.

The LG – XBOOM XL7 Portable Tower Speaker with Pixel LED is a solid party in a box. It is solid and well built. Although it has some heft to it, it is easily portable with wheels and and extendable/retractable handle. It is very well built. The factory sound setting is flat out of the box. You can download the app for it and adjust the EQ settings. I was initially disappointed with the bass response until adjusting the EQ in the app. The sound is fine for a party setting, I’m just saying it isn’t high fidelity sound, but perfectly suited for a party environment. The light modes can be adjusted via the app or from the LG – XBOOM XL7 Portable Tower Speaker with Pixel LED box itself. The app has other has DJ mode with sound mixer effects and even custom sounds. It can be used as a PA system or Karoake with a connected microphone. Various lighting effects can be adjusted from the box or the the app, definitely ups the party atmosphere. You can bluetooth to it and stream from your phone or streaming services. The LG – XBOOM XL7 Portable Tower Speaker with Pixel LED can be turned off/on manually using power button on it, but can also be done through the app. It provides enough sound quality for a party. I wish it would be able to provide more bass that you can feel, but like I said, it’s not high fidelity. BUT it is definitely a portable party in a box. Look forward to using it for parties indoors and outdoors. I also forgot to mention that it can be used plugged or unplugged because it has a rechargeable battery!

This product could have been so good with just a few tweaks and a few extra features. I think in an effort to make the product simple, it’s been compromised.
I initially tried to use this without the app or reading the instructions and that did not go well. I got a lot of feedback from the speaker and could not control the volume. Plugging in a guitar made this horrible noise like the actual speaker had a slice in it. I thought I had a defective product. I decided to read the setup guide and saw that I needed the app. Once that was downloaded and connected via Bluetooth, the speaker worked mostly as expected. I was able to control the volume and my guitar sounded like a guitar.
The instructions are very basic. It guides you through basic setup and features but there is no guide for the app itself that I could find.
Speaking of the app, it’s not great but it does have some nifty features. You can change the lighting effects and even create custom scrolling text. This would be great for a party where you can program a message specifically for that event. It also has a feature to change a voice so it’s really deep or really high. You can sound like a robot or like someone that inhaled helium. I can see kids having a blast with this. You can also use a custom equalizer to adjust the sound. The equalizer is basic (bass, mid, treble) but it works.
I couldn’t get the App’s built-in music player to work. It wouldn’t access my music library and I couldn’t find a way to add songs. I’m guessing it’s a setting somewhere but as mentioned earlier, I couldn’t find a guide for the app. However, once connected via Bluetooth, I was able to stream music from my music services. I was also able to put music onto a USB stick and play that on the speaker. Unfortunately, when playing music through the USB port, there is no way to play a specific song or fast forward/rewind through songs. It will play them in the order they are on the stick (basically alphabetically). You can only hit play or pause. When using the USB drive, the speaker disconnects from Bluetooth and your phone. You need to use the buttons on the device for volume, pause/play or to change the colors in the lighting.
I had two major issues with the app. First, you have to allow it to track your location in order to access the User Guide. I assume this is so they can serve you the guide with the correct language but I’d rather it ask me than track me. Second, every time I tried to access the User Guide through the app, it would crash. This happened even though I allowed it to track my location.
The sound is good and it can get loud, but I certainly expected better from such a large speaker. It should have amazing sound but I think my HomePod sounds better playing music. There are two inputs on the back of the speaker. One is for a microphone and the other is for a guitar. My acoustic guitar sounds good. The microphone also worked well. I have an inexpensive wireless setup that allows me to connect 2 mics to the single mic jack. The jacks have separate volume dials so they can be mixed properly with each other and any music that is streaming. You can use the speaker as a PA with very limited features but it will work. There is an echo feature with two levels of echo. I wish this feature was more adjustable, I prefer a little echo (reverb) but this speaker has either a lot or a whole lot!
This thing is fairly heavy. It weighs close to 50 lbs. I’m guessing most of that weight is battery. Thankfully, it’s on wheels and has a retractable handle.
I mentioned earlier that a few features could make this speaker much better. I’ll list some here.
(1) Give the each of the 2 inputs on the back full echo/reverb controls, not just 2 choices on the vocal channel.
(2) Have an output jack so the speaker can be connected to headphones, a recorder, a sound board or a PC.
(3) An input for a laptop would make this speaker much more flexible. Being able to use PC Karaoke software would make this much easier for reading lyrics when singing.
(4) Have some way to select songs when using the USB port. At least skip forward and back buttons. Even better, have the songs on the thumb drive show up on the app so they can be selected as needed.
(5) This is the big one – Make it so that this thing can be used without the app. After I let it sit for a day, I had the same issue I had when I first set it up, no volume control and a guitar that sounded broken until I reconnected to the app. How long will the app be supported? I am very worried this thing will be useless in 5-10 years because the app won’t be updated for the latest phones.
I had planned on donating this speaker to my church. However, the fact that it requires the app has me thinking it may not be able to do what I hoped it would do and I think the app makes it more complicated than it needs to be for someone that is unfamiliar with this product. It’s certainly not plug and play. Would I recommend this product? It depends on who’s asking but for the most part, I don’t think so. For the money, I feel it should be better. It can be fun when set up properly and used in the context it’s designed for. I guess I’m not the target customer.

Full Review:
As a self proclaimed audiophile and musician I have/had my share of devices that make sound, preferably good sound. My opinion of the LG Xboom is as follows. Packaged well, showed up with no damage. I hate styrofoam packaging, but I also realize it does a good job of protecting the contents.
The Xboom showed up with about 70% charged battery, so I was ready to boom right from the box. The app installed with no issue, connected right to my phone with bluetooth and I was in business. The speaker itself is quite heavy, but you aren’t going to get great sound out of a tin can. With the telescoping handle and wheels it moves easily. Build quality is nice, and it looks nice.
I listened to all the genres of music that I like, pop, country, rock, dubstep, chill, you name it, even with using the xboom app equalizer and my music app eq, I was never able to get the perfect sound to my ears. The best word I have to describe it is ‘muddy’. It wouldn’t come close to the quality of my 1000w column speaker (not that I expected it to). And it wouldn’t keep up to a pair of 35 year old Klipsch speakers I have. But to be fair, neither of those are portable and battery powered.
I also plugged a mic and acoustic guitar into it and sang a few tunes, I dont think I’d want to try to do a coffee house gig with it, there are better options for musicians in the same price range. Speaking of plugging things in, there is no line input. Some of my use scenarios could use a line in, so now I’ll need to find a DI box or some other level converter.
HOWEVER… the good new is, for the right audience I think this speaker is great but maybe still a little overpriced.. Want some quick tunes out on the deck with a bit of thump, great. Got kids having a party in the basement, great, they will love the blinky light show and will be content with the sound and probably drive you nuts with the crazy sound effects and vocal changes in the app 🙂 Anyplace you want some portable tunes with a little boom, this speaker will work.
If I’m rating this as an audiophile musician, it gets 3 stars. Rated as a ‘toy’ for the kids it gets 4 stars.

I love speakers. Smart ones. Bluetooth ones. In this case, it’s only Bluetooth but that’s fine. I was provided this monster speaker to review at no out-of-pocket cost from Best Buy, like the other members of the Tech Insider Network.
TL;DR for my frequent readers and details below.
Good:
Size
Luggage Handle / rolling capability
LED Customizations
Sound Customizations
Battery Life
Light flashing sync
Power cord pocket in back
Can be rested on side
Sealed cover for connections on back
Meh:
LED Customizations (wait, good & meh?)
App can be confusing (to customize the animations)
Animations can lag
Bad:
Wheels get caught up small rugs with that grip underneath
It’s a monster and came in a monster box and the setup was near instant without any problems.
As I started to look through the App for what customizations were possible, I had a random playlist going – from 70s rock, to Hip-Hop, Reggae & Ska. Not bad, however I found it a bit muffled.
The ‘SOUND BOOST’ setting is better for larger spaces as the audio seems a bit muffled when up close; a quick fix to that is to go into the EQ, leave ‘SOUND BOOST’ and select ‘Custom’ and tune the values to be more clear for you.
You can’t make your own cartoon animations. Bummer. You can make word animations that bounce or scroll and alternate colors though. When making an animation, or editing one of your other ones, you have to move it into a ‘waiting area’ edit it, then add it back, then select it again. While not awful, it seems to add an unnecessary step (waiting area).
Then, I took it outside … and it couldn’t roll over the tiny rug in front of my door! The wheels just drove the rug into the anti-skid mat and I had to lift the speaker over it. Weird. Then, it went to the pool and across the pool from where I was sitting and it had plenty of volume even at 25%! I did crank up the volume up and it got loud and was clear, which is important to me. Very cool; sorry neighbors!
After about 4 hours of consistent use, some animations, colored woofer, strobe light and “Sound Boost” mode, I only lost about 20% of the battery – impressive for something that has that many blinking parts along with running Bluetooth for the music.
If you find yourself running low on battery, there’s a place to hold your power cable – a mesh pocket in the back – not a bad idea. A label says that the pocket is for the ‘cover’ that hides the connections (power, microphone, etc) – but it doesn’t come off, so maybe it’s just an oversight label.
Observations:
Animations can lag at times – never really found a pattern to the lag, but it happens. Far from a show stopper, but something I noticed.
The speaker can be stood up or rested on its side, however the animations don’t shift like your phone would, so everything is scrolling from the sky to the ground.
I didn’t get to test the Linked mode (2 of these monsters), but I can only imagine how loud two of these speakers can get.
Recommended? Yeah!

The LG XBOOM XL7 is a large heavy speaker that, if used, in the way it was intended, is a good speaker.
Pros:
* Easy to setup
* All-in-One design
* Long battery life (up to 20 hours)
* Wheels to make it easier to move about
* Fun, customizable, lights
* Mic and guitar input
* Weather resistant (not waterproof)
* USB port to charge your phone/devices
Cons:
* Heavy (34 pounds) – but a good thing if outside in windy conditions
* App is a little clunky (hard to use to customize animations/lights)
* No wireless capability (only bluetooth)
* Just OK sound overall
* No line in
I use the XBOOM XL7 out by the pool, under a covered patio, and it provides plenty of sound for the yard. I have my phone and outdoor TV connected via bluetooth to the speaker and it works well in both situations. The lights are fun at night when it’s dark and the speaker is solid so doesn’t move when hit with strong winds. With it being weather resistant (not weatherproof), I know that it will be fine sitting on the covered porch without having to move it inside every day.
If you are a hard-core audiophile, stay away as this speaker is not intended for you. It definitely isn’t meant for listening to music in high quality. But if you want a fun “party” speaker that works well by the pool or outside during a party, then this is one to consider.
Giving 4 stars as for the price of this speaker, I would have expected a few missing features (line in, wireless connectivity, Apple AirPlay).

Right out of the box you know this speaker is going to be impressive. It weighs just enough to feel like a beast while also being light enough to maintain portability with the innovative built in wheels and surprise pull out handle. The speaker came securely packaged in a sturdy cardboard box and arrived in perfect condition. Setting the speaker up was a breeze, I just plugged it in, let it charge for about half an hour, then started it up with the power button. The speaker comes with a very simple fold-out manual that is basically a one page diagram with a QR code to scan and get the LG XBoom app on your smartphone.
After installing the LG XBoom app and connecting to the speaker you can use the app to see the speaker battery level, adjust sound, dot animation and woofer light settings as well as many other useful features like the Karaoke settings, DJ sound tools and wireless party link settings and more.
The LG XBoom XL7 was designed for a party and is ready to show off with its colorful lighting and booming sound. I love all the dancing lights and the customizable settings available in the app. The dot animation panel is fun to watch and even better, you can create customer text to scroll or flash for a party or special event. There are only 10 premade dot animations to choose from at the moment but hopefully LG will create more to add to the library with future updates. It would also be cool if they created an app feature to allow users to create their own dot animations, beyond just the scrolling text. Speaking of parties, the Karaoke feature on the speaker works great and can be really fun when using it with the XBoom app. I highly recommend using it at your next party for some great memories with friends and family. There is also a guitar jack for anyone who plays or has friends who play. I didn’t get a chance to try hooking it up to a guitar yet but I’m sure it sounds great.
The speaker sounds great and can get really loud, much louder than I’ll ever need. You can adjust the sound with the app using the preset sound boost setting or by adjusting the levels yourself for a more customized sound. You do have the option to connect this to another LG speaker with the Party Link function to get a left/right stereo sound experience, which would be really cool and I hope to be able to try out at some point in the future if I ever get another LG speaker with the Party Link function.
I love that this speaker has a battery that can last for up to 20 hours when used with the lights off. I also appreciate that it is IPX4 rated so that I can take it to an outdoor party and not have to be too concerned with spills or a light sprinkle of rain. The portability of the speaker is awesome and it’s actually pretty cool to show up rolling this thing, while playing music behind you. The Karaoke feature can really help to bring a party to life and the dancing colorful lights are mesmerizing to watch while being entertained by the person performing. You can even change the name being shown on the dot animation to show the name of each singer for a karaoke party.
I really like everything about this speaker, it’s incredibly fun and I want to show it off to all of my friends, which means more parties! I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a loud impressive speaker that likes to show off and is something you can take with you when going on a trip.

This review is for the LG XBOOM CL7 portable tower speaker with pixel LED.
This thing is legit a party on wheels. Yes it has wheels! I have two other brand speakers like this one. But this one has became my favorite just for the ease of moving it around. It has a collapsible handle much like a suitcase, luggage and wheels. Now the wheels are good not great. I wish they were a little wider apart. The unit tips over very easily from small bumps or uneven surfaces. But still a lot better than carrying around. I live in New Orleans and can’t wait to take this to parades next season. There is always a party in the streets. And you usually have to park blocks away. So being able to transport this easily is a huge plus.
And it sounds great. Deep bass and high highs. I am just amazed how great a portable wireless speaker can sound. Super easy to connect to. And has a app to control the lights and LED screen. You can pick from a handful of animations of different cartoons dancing to the music or just lights. I didn’t care so much for this, but my toddlers loved it. The app is easy to use. And it has awesome battery life. More than enough for a full day of use.

I was very excited to use the LG XBOOM XL7 portable tower speaker because it essentially a speaker on wheels. LG did a great job designing the speaker taking into account that put a handle on it and wheels allow anyone to move it around easily. Once you have the LG XBOOM app downloaded to your device you are able to unlock all the features of the speaker. The custom color ring lighting can be endlessly customized on the app in order to add to your party. The speaker also features a pixel LED feature that lets you display custom messages or animations on the speaker right above the woofer. Unfortunately this feature was not functioning on my speaker out of the box so I was unable to experience it. I have full faith in LG customer support so I’m sure they will be able to take care of the problem.
Sound quality is excellent on the 250 watt speaker. The 8 inch woofer and 2.5 inch tweeters do a great job pumping out high quality sound that did not crack at all even when turned up high. As suggested in the app please make sure to turn off the equalizer function on your device and use the speaker’s equalizer which can be accessed via the app. In addition to be able to play music via bluetooth you can also connect a device via USB. The rear of speaker also allows you to connect a mic and or a guitar. The speaker also has a karaoke functionality so that you can have a fun karaoke night at home. To top it all off, the speaker has a large battery that allows you to use it for about 20 hrs without having to plug it in.
Overall LG did a great putting together a great speaker. I was a little disappointed that the pixel LED lighting feature did not work however sound quality is great

Not only do I love this speaker but so does my autistic toddler. I’ll get more on to why later.
So this is a pretty big speaker, it’s quite heavy and very well built, this is a party speaker so be aware of that.
LG have done a couple of really good things to make this thing easily moved. I’ve had big speakers before that are cumbersome and just a pain to move around. LG decided to put wheels on this unit and also and extendable handle. It’s the same setup you would find in a similar sized suitcase and it’s extremely effective when maneuvering to where you want it. Genius idea by LG.
Build quality on this is solid. It’s made from a very dense plastic and just feels substantial. It feels like a quality product. It has the XBOOM name on the front and sides but it doesn’t look garish. Buttons are easily accessible on the top of the unit and have a pleasant feel to them.
You get app support from LG also which allows you to use preset sound profiles or select your own with an EQ. Also in the app it lets you control the lights on the speaker and the led display. You can even create your own design for the LED display which is great.
The lighting on this looks really good with no billed through, it can react to the music and this is where my toddler loves it, he loves to see the dancing graphics while he has me blast out the peaches song by jack black. It really is excellent.
Sound is also really good from this and very loud. With the EQ you. An make this sound however you like but it has great lows while not not slipping into the mids. The highs are also clear and present and it makes for an enjoyable listening experience
I love this speaker and so do my family. Battery is great, Bluetooth range is great, sound is great and so is the build quality.
You and your family will love this

I received my LG XBOOM XL7 Portable Tower Speaker just in time for a pool party with my coworkers, and it was the absolute hit of the party. Let me tell you about my initial experience with this beast.
After unboxing, I charged the speaker for a few hours and downloaded the XBOOM app for my Android phone. After it was up to 100% charge, I started putting the XL7 through its paces; and the smiles began.
First, the LED panel and other graphics, which can be controlled both on the top of the speaker as well as through the app, are a lot of fun, and reminiscent of early 80s 8 bit graphics. The blue and pink colors surrounding the 8″ woofer remind me of Miami Vice back in the day. As an 80’s Kid, class of 1984, the visuals here just couldn’t be better. If you want a text scroll for the graphics, you can create your own custom messages or ue the built in ones. Of course, you can disable the LED panel, the woofer light ring, or both if you so desire (It will help the battery life, which is rated for 20 hours)
Of course, the most important aspect of any speaker is going to be the sound, and it doesn’t disappoint here at all. I think most are going to want to have the Sound Boost activated which boosts the bass and mids. Not that there’s anything “wrong” with having this off, but this is a party box, and having the boost turned off definitely softens the mood along with the sound. You can also manually adjust the EQ with a 3 band equalizer built into the app. One thing you’ll notice about the sound as well is that with the volume at a constant setting, it feels a good 20% or more louder when plugged in vs running off the battery. Clarity of sound even at very high levels is really, really good. My party guests asked how loud it gets, and I started cranking it up, little by little, and I only got to about 80% before they all suggested I turn it down so as not to bother people in the neighboring county, heh.
Obviously you can connect to the XBOOM XL7 via Bluetooth, but you can also connect a microphone and/or a guitar via 1/4 inch jacks in the back, as well connect a USB flash drive via the USB-A connector on the back. I had fun doing karaoke with it. What I found curious and even a little disappointing though is lack of an XLR connector for a microphone, as well as any kind of jack audio input, whether an 1/8 inch jack or RCA jacks. At this price point, I would have included them.
Finally, I want to talk about some other unique features of this speaker. I think the wheels and telescoping handle are very handy. At 34lbs, I would much rather roll than carry the XL7 any kind of distance. I like that this speaker is water resistant; not that I would leave it outside in a pouring rain, but as an inground pool owner, the IPX4 water resistance rating is confidence inspiring; I don’t worry about it getting splashed or dripped on at all. There were a few features that I’ll note that I either couldn’t use or didn’t find useful, but may be of interest: 1) Wireless Party Link allows you to connect multiple XBOOM speakers to a single input; which could be especially useful for stereo listening where one could be Left channel and the other could be Right. 2) There’s a DJ feature that has buttons for various party and drum sounds, as well as a “DJ Scratch” dial. The features work as intended, just not my personal thing 3) You can create samples by plugging in a USB flash drive with the music/sounds you want to sample from, but I didn’t try that. 4) Party strobe – this will activate the flashlight on your phone to the beat of the music when you have this enabled. OK, I tried it, it works, but not sure it’s a feature that was necessary 🙂
Overall, I have to say this is the most awesome Bluetooth speaker available today. I think the mix of audio and visual features, together with the battery life, durability, and portability, make the LG XBOOM XL7 speaker the logical choice for anyone looking to entertain with pizzazz.

For years I have been making do with various smaller-sized bluetooth capable sound systems for the summer backyard bbq/grilling season, and they have not disappointed in providing ambient music to drown out the neighbors. However, for the summer of 2023, I wanted to have a larger speaker for the backyard, so when the opportunity availed itself, I placed an order.
It’s hard to comprehend and envision what the LG XBOOM XL7 bluetooth speaker would sound like when you see the courier drop off a massive box with the words ‘heavy’ on it. Enclosed within the confines of the well-padded shipping box is whopping 35 lbs of speaker. Once you find the grab handles, it is quite the task to lift the speaker out of the shipping box. The sleek black and orange speaker features an 8” woofer, two 2.5” tweeters, and a massive battery that can power this thing all night long. The speaker has wheels on the bottom and nubs on the side to allow you to place it both vertically or horizontally.
The instruction manual is rather thin, but it was clear, I had to plug it into the wall to charge it for at least 3 hours. I, of course, could not wait to turn this speaker on, so after an hour’s charge, I turned it on. A gentle sound and flashing LEDs read XBOOM, and then the speaker was available to pair. There is a flashing led pixel display that is customizable to show text or various pre-set graphics and sprites. There is also a LED light bar around the woofer that can be called upon to add some color to your party. If that is not enough, there is a strobe light that will flash to the beat of the music. Thankfully all of these can be turned off should you find the epileptic inducing flashing not to your taste.
The speaker controls on the top are sparse, but the important controls you would use are backlit and easy to find and read. There is a big, unmistakable power button on the left and an equally large ‘play/pause’ button on the right. The rest of the 5 buttons allow for various light, sound, and input controls, including volume.
If your choice is to just run this as a large bluetooth speaker. You can stop reading this review right now. It works great as a bluetooth speaker. The sound is flat and clear in normal mode, if you use the sound boost, you get an extra punch. However, if you are like me, interested in its hidden party gifts, then read on… As with any speaker, I would suggest giving it at least 10 hours of playtime at moderate volumes for the speaker to break in, as sound quality improved after some hours of music listening.
The back of the speaker has a curious panel covered by a rubber gasket. This is where one plugs the provided charging cable to charge your speaker or use it wired. Besides the AC, there are 3 inputs; of which one is a USB; two knobs, and a button (and a recessed reset button). This speaker is not only a bluetooth speaker but one that can act as a rudimentary PA, a karaoke machine, a DJ Deck, and speakers for a one-man band.
The USB allows one to load up songs on a USB for music all night, but I did run into one technical issue…. There is a limitation on the number of folders the LG XBOOM XL7 can support. It initially did not support the USB flash drive I took out of my car until I reduced the number of folders and files. I had to download the LG XBOOM manual from the web to see that limitation. Evidently, a 64 GB USB flash drive had too many songs to support, but it did fine with a smaller 8 GB drive with lesser songs. The official limit for the number of folders is 200, and up to 2000 files that are of MP3 or WMA format.
So back to the controls, there are two ¼” mono inputs labeled guitar and mic, with independent volume controls. You can use them to plug in accessories (and not just a guitar) for music sessions. So that is what I did, I took out my electric guitar and plugged it in for a jam session. You can play over bluetooth and USB using this feature, you do not need to change to a specific input. I did note that as a guitar amp, it is lacking, but once you add effect pedals, it gets better, there is no built-in distortion or ‘grunge’ that my Marshall amp would have, but then this is not a guitar amp, this is a bluetooth speaker that can be used as an amp.
The LG XBOOM app has some neat features besides changing colors, scrolling text, and sprites on the speaker. The DJ Function has 6 pre-loaded ‘drops’ that can be used to simulate a DJ session. It has three classic nightclub drops, three drum sounds, and the ability to add custom sounds. More of a gimmick it’s still helpful to get the party started. The Karaoke function in the app is enabled when you plug in a microphone and includes several effects that allow you to change your voice and suppress vocals using the included virtual equalizer. I found the effect rather disturbing as it could never get vocals entirely out, but the various vocal effects were a hoot! If you are going to use this as a karaoke machine, I would instead use pre-made karaoke tracks over the USB or bluetooth.
I can see so many great options with the LG XBOOM series speakers. I can imagine you have your iPad loaded with music (be it the voice-less background for karaoke or a DJ deck) – plugged in via bluetooth, and sync’d with party sync (for a second speaker) – it’s a portable wireless bluetooth DJ deck on the go, and it has all the flashing lights already. The kid’s summer birthday parties would be lit!
I can also imagine the LG XBOOM XL7 would be a hit with your local subway buskers, who would wheel the speaker down with their guitar and microphone stand to play a stirring rendition of Stairway to Heaven while you wait for your train to take you home. The ability of the speaker to use the microphone and guitar inputs at the same time as the USB to play tunes for background tracks (or an iPad if you so wish) makes this a versatile speaker. I can see local artists using this at my local promenade.
So how is it to live with it… Besides its size and weight, it’s relatively easy to live with. I have it in the corner of my room, it’s loud enough to rattle the walls. It’s portable enough to wheel it from the sunroom to the patio to the backyard The sound quality has improved tremendously since I first turned it on. It’s almost too loud in enclosed spaces, but for outdoor use, it’s perfect.
The speaker is easy enough to carry around. The wheels make it easy to move, but remember that it is still 35 lbs to lift it into your car, and you can’t use the extension handle. There are two awkwardly positioned handles that ideally require two people to lift but are doable by one. Just remember not to throw your back out lifting this around.
Overall, if you are looking for a speaker like this for your backyard, there is no hesitation in recommending this LG XBOOM line of speakers.

The LG XBOOM XL7 brings Karaoke style audio features in a portable package. Rated at 250W, this speaker provides enough sound for a small party or karaoke night, although I would not recommend it for larger events at party halls.
There are many features that LG adds to this speaker that, in my opinion, does in fact make it a considerable option as a party speaker. To start, it has several lighting effects on the front part of the speaker you can choose from. My kids loved them! There are 3 light types in total; a strobe light, pixel lighting, and a circular lighting effect. This speaker also allows for two ¼ inch ports for connecting a microphone and a guitar (or two of both if preferred) to it. Next to each of the ports, there is a volume knob and a button to add an echo effect to one of the microphone channels or devices connected to the ports (but not to both).
Where this speaker really begins to shine is through the LG XBOOM app. The XBOOM app gives you many additional features such as allowing you to turn on the speaker from your phone or device (can do only turn on when charging the speaker, which is kind of a let down), includes a DJ mode (scratching noise and audio sound effects), a simple audio equalizer, settings to control and create your own pixel lighting effects, allows for adding sound effects to your voice (transform your voice to a high pitched voice, a robot voice, and more), as well as settings to link another speaker to play audio in Stereo.
There are other nice additions this speaker has including making it easier to use and take out and about despite its size. It has wheels on the bottom that help transport it across concrete and small rocks. It also has padding on the bottom and on one side of the speaker (if you would like to lay it horizontally) and helps against scratching the speaker while on concrete. To move it or carry it around, it has 2 handles; one for carrying it and another that can be raised for rolling the speaker with it’s wheels. It has a small net compartment on the back to store the power cord (for charging) or also fits a microphone. Lastly, the XL7 touts a 20 hour battery life and IPX4 water resistance (will be protected from splashes of water but not against sand). As I tested the battery life, I did reach closer to the 20 hours although battery life depends on your light effect settings, how loud you play the speaker, as well as if you have other devices connected to your ports.
Now for the audio. The audio sounded great, although I found the audio to be more focused towards lower frequencies. I noticed that it lacked detail in the highs and higher mids. This is fine for me as this would mainly be used as a party speaker and care more for the loudness and features of it. I did find the amount of bass is lacking for my taste; the bass thump could be heard slightly if nearby. This did come in handy as the bass did not distort audio at the loudest volume setting during my testing, though. When reaching the highest audio level for audio (whether raising it from the phone or turning the volume knob for microphone ports), there is an audible ring letting you know that it reached the loudest setting. In its totality, audio will sound great for everyone and you should not hear any complaints from anyone at a party.
As for the cons of the speaker, I would’ve liked for there to be more power for its size. While the audio is great for small parties, I would’ve liked for it to cover a larger area while outside and for the bass to be punchier. Second, I would’ve loved for the speaker to be turned on from your phone without needing to be plugged in charging. Just a little recommendation for the future.
Overall, the LG XBOOM XL7 is a great speaker that offers many features that could definitely be used in a party setting. I recommend it for those that are looking for a speaker with portability, long battery life, DJ like features, and adept sound.

Love it. It was worth the money. Wanted something cheaper but glad I didn’t get a cheaper one

This is such a great speaker! I love the led display on the front of it and the fact you can customize the saying to whatever party you may be using it for is awesome. Sound quality is definitely nice, I do wish it had a bit more bass to the sound but it’s still worth every cent.

The LG XBOOM XL7 is a ‘portable’ speaker that is a large tower. In fact, it’s big enough and heavy enough that it requires the built-in dolly and handles to move it around from one place to the next. Suggesting it’s portable is a bit of a silly thing to say, I would say it’s transportable, movable from one place to the next, it’s mobile on wheels. Lol! It is apparently meant to be mostly a Bluetooth streaming speaker, I had absolutely no problem pairing it and it played just fine and never disconnected. If I was on the design committee, I would have brought these things to the attention of the engineers and did a cost benefit analysis for them. To do this test, I had to be respectful of neighbors and other people in the area. The reason I settled there is that it appears to be the natural resonance of the speaker housing. It was not a very scientific finding; I simply placed a small container of water on top of the speaker and continued to turn up the frequency until the water began to visibly vibrate at 50% volume. Unplugged it from the AC power, turned on my frequency generator to 39hz, set the volume to 50% and then closed the door and let it run until the sound stopped, which was around 14 hours. The other conditions to consider were that I was using Bluetooth, so that took a small amount of energy, I left the entertaining lights enabled to occasionally flash including the LED panel that was constantly displaying the little characters dancing around and the ring light around the giant woofer. I am very satisfied with the amount of sound it put out and the volume level for 14 hours. Very impressive; I suspect a lot of the cost that went into this giant speaker was spent on the battery itself because it is quite impressive, and the speaker is quite heavy. This little monster is meant to entertain the neighborhood, to be the center of attraction attention at a block party. That’s not to say it will not distort at all, I was able to create resonance at frequencies and volume level. The design of the speaker is interesting, think of it as a big hard-sided carry-on piece of luggage. It’s meant to be wheeled around which means the bottom of the speaker will get scuffed up inevitably. Personally, I would have preferred the speaker be separated from a protective shell that has wheels on it. I would have designed it a little bit differently and it would have ultimately extended the useful life of the entire speaker since the case could take a beating, but the speaker itself would be separated. I do think for the price it sounds pretty good, not great; it can be a little muffled depending on the music you are listening to. There’s a lot of things they could have done to differentiate the unit. But it is very basic as well as your reset button and there is a port for the AC to plug in. I think it would have made a lot more sense to group these ports and then have separate covers to keep out dust and moisture and limit the possibility of damage. It takes a bit of effort to open the cover up. Also, kudos for attaching the cover with a rubber tether so that you do not lose it. I hooked up the speaker to the wireless microphone I purchased, and it was a heck of a lot of fun. There is an input for a guitar, which I do not have but a friend did, and we gave it a shot. In conclusion this is a well-made speaker, it’s not perfect, nothing ever is, where it shines the most is its ability to pump out enormous amounts of volume and still last 10 to 15 hours in my testing on battery alone. This is not a normal Bluetooth speaker; it is very purpose-built and will be the life of any block party it goes to. If you understand its shortcomings, or I should say features that it does not have if you are okay with that then this is a very nice unit. If you do not mind parting with this much money, you will be the life of the party and people will be asking to borrow it right and left. But I do not think you will find them with this quality build nor the reputation of the manufacturer, the warranty, and I would say this will last a very long time.
Jeff W –
To begin, the picture does not do this speaker justice. It is about as large as a typical suitcase. To quote a euphemism, I would say it is built like a tank. There is a handle built in that makes it easy to carry, and there is a second handle that extends and allows you to pull the speaker on its built in wheels. The unit includes a cord to plug in to the wall, although it also has a battery that is supposed to last 20 hours or so. (I have not tested the battery life claim as I am typically somewhere with electrical outlets.)
Aesthetically, the top display can be changed (through the LG XBOOM application on a smartphone) to a few different animations. The lighting around the woofer can also be changed to different colors. There are also two strobe lights, one on the top and one on the bottom, that can flash in synchronization to the music as well. Lighting wise, the unit is pretty nice.
All of that is useless if a speaker system does not sound good. The device connects easily through bluetooth to a streaming device and, to me, sounds great, especially when the sound enhancement is turned on. While this is obviously subjective, I found the bass to be rich and deep without being too overdone or overpowering for the rest of the higher frequencies. There is a stark difference when enhancement is on or off, and I prefer having it on. Through the application, it is possible to tune the speaker yourself, but there are only three sliders that can be adjusted for the bass, midrange, and treble. Allowing the sound enhancement to do its thing works just fine for me.
The volume of the speaker is great. At about half volume, my wife and daughter were both complaining about the music being too loud. I haven’t taken the speaker up to full blast yet because I have not had the need. I imagine my perception of the volume would be different outside, but I have only used the speaker inside thus far.
The application allows you to perform some “DJ-esque” things to the music while you are playing. The application can also be used for playing music from playlists, but I found that feature too complicated and laborious to use. It is a lot easier to use the music application built right into your smartphone or streaming device to play your already built playlists.
I believe there is a setting that allows you to link two speakers together, but that is a feature I have not explored as I have only this single speaker. I also have not tested the water resistance of the unit, so I do not have any guidance or feedback on that. There is also the ability to plug in a microphone and use it for karaoke. (I am guessing that could also be used to put together a quick, makeshift PA station as well.) There is a guitar jack as well. If you prefer not to stream via bluetooth, a USB drive can also be plugged in. (That is another feature I did not use, however.)
One thing I feel obligated to mention is that my first XBOOM XL7 speaker started smoking (literally) immediately when I plugged it in and turned it on the first time. The smoke smelled like something electrical burning. I am chalking that up to some type of fluke issue with that speaker. LG replaced the unit and I have not experienced any issues with the replacement speaker.
Ultimately, this is a huge speaker that feels very solid and provides some very good-sounding music. I also like the LEDs and lighting effects. I was really impressed and would be hard pressed to think of a reason to not give five stars. (Yes, it is heavy, but that’s just part of the deal. You don’t buy this type of speaker because you’re looking for the lightest, most portable option.) If you are looking for a loud, portable (albeit bulky and heavy) speaker for a party, this unit would definitely be a good option.

Its good sometimes , when you use the app that you have to download to control the speaker, if you use it too much it glitches and freezes n u cant turn it on or off cuz its frozen so u have to wait till it dies out then u charge it and it turn on back again. The customer service for that speaker was horrible when i asked for help, i told them it was frozen and they told me to turn it on and off, like did u not read my email??

The XL7 is an excellent party in a box. The volume level will ensure that you can entertain even outdoors (especially when plugged in). The battery life is exceptionally long and can easily last a full night of music. The bass isn’t chest pounding but it does the work. There really isn’t any major issues with the speaker. As stated, the bass isn’t as punchy as the JBL contender, but the sound is warmer and more balanced. The full retail price is on the high end, but sales are plentiful and put it in a much more desirable position.

Daughter is on a travel soccer team and they use this prior to games while warming up. Is it overkill? Absolutely! Great sound and they love it.

This thing sounds great in my gameroom. Thinking about buying a second one .

Has great sound and easy to pair and absolutely love how you can add a message… I bought this for that reason to use at my 25th Anniversary party and every one loved it. You can customize colors & messages easily in the app. It’s heavy but easy to transport with the wheels and extender handle. You can also use it while plugged in which is a big plus and not have worry about it dying. It says u can add microphone to use for karaoke, but haven’t used that yet.
It’s gets pretty loud but wish it could go louder than what you ph will allow.

I loved it. Perfect for my living room for karoake and parties. I can move it anywhere I want without hassle. It has wheels and its waterproof too. I can attach 2 microphones so far.
