I’m in love with this refrigerator now that the chemical smell is gone! It took 2-3 MONTHS for the strong plastic smell and taste to go away whenever I’d open the freezer or get water from the door. We researched the filter, reinserted it a million times and flushed gallons of water out. I did call Best Buy and they were scheduled to come look at it but they never came, when I checked online it said they came?? and when I called I was put on hold for a while so I just forgot about it. Thankfully no issue with smell or taste anymore. I love the door in a door feature it’s perfect and keeps everything organized. Icebox is big if you ever need a bunch to fill a pitcher. So much space and bottom drawers are huge for produce

DO NOT BUY THIS LG REFRIGERATOR!!!
I purchased this LG refrigerator in late October 2021 and it worked perfectly until late February 2022 [4 months]. Woke up one morning to a puddle of water in front of the frig. The freezer side had completely failed and the ice in ice maker had melted. Over the course of the next few days the refrigerator side slowly failed. This frig wasn’t cheap and is now a terrible investment.
LG customer service is a pain to work with because you have to submit a complaint on their website first. After over two weeks of setting a case number they scheduled service with A&E. The first attempt concluded that the motherboard had gone out and it must be ordered. It was shipped to my home and the second service attempt was to install the motherboard.
After 24+ hours the refrigerator side has yet to get to the requested temperature and the freezer side has yet to freeze a glass of water [photo below]. I now have to schedule a new work order with LG to get A&E out for a third time to issue a recall.
I want a full replacement or total refund on this terrible purchase. It was highly rated but apparently it shouldn’t be.
You don’t realize how much you need a refrigerator until you’ve been without one for over a month.

I purchased this fridge 3 years and 9 days ago, and the compressor has gone out TWICE. The first time it started working again on it’s own, but this time we had someone come out to check it out and he quoted the repair at $900. He said LG has recently came out with some terrible products in recent years.

Ice maker no longer drops ice after two years, and it’s out of warranty. The water also comes out at a strange angle which causes many users to miss the cup and spray the floor at first instead. Not my favorite.

Great refrigerator/freezer. Plenty of space for a family of 4 and I love the water/ice dispenser on the freezer door. Only concern is that the door skins are very thin and will dent or scratch with the slightest pressure or hit. I wish it was a little thicker or made of a different material, but overall, I would not use that as an excuse not to be this.

This fridge is terrible quality. My other fridge from 2008 still works and this broke earlier despite being a newer model. I wouldn’t recommend this fridge to anyone who wants longevity. This model only lasted 4 years.

I understand value. I also understand you get what you pay for. I don’t know the average lifespan of a modern refrigerator in 2022, but this one lasted me 3 years before the ice maker started to conk out. My warranty went through April of 2022, the ice maker stopped in May 2022. That’s the way she goes, right?
For those 3 years, the machine served my family well. It wasn’t bad at all once I got past the broken front door button that broke off 3 months after I bought it. Not until the ice maker, that is. Pretty bulky, but obviously spacious.
Ended up making an appointment w/ Geek Squad to come check it out. The guy looked at it, asked me what was wrong exactly, then looked at me…with that disappointing look that your spouse gives you when you’re caught in the fridge in the middle of the night. He said that they’d have to order me a ice machine, which would mean I have to buy a new door. Would’ve cost me over $1k when all is said and done. That’s more than half the price I paid for it.
He told me that LG and Samsung brands often break down this quick. LG especially.
The 3 star rating is for the amount of years I got out of a $2k refrigerator. Well…the ice maker, anyway.
Now, she’ll sit in the garage…making sure all of our canned and bottled beverages stay cold and our desserts and bulk meats stay frozen.
I would only recommend a machine if I knew it would last. This one capped at 3 years. I’d spend the money and get a better quality instead of focusing on value. I’m going to be doing that…on a GE or Whirlpool.

Works great!! Absolutely no issues. No complaints. Nothing is broken it’s been 2 years that I’ve had this fridge. The only thing is that you can not place magnets on the doors. However, magnets are placed on the side of the fridge which works just fine for where it is placed.

First the pros: The refrigerator size and layout is amazing. Lots of space for everything.
But after that, everything goes downhill. The fridge is part of a class action lawsuit due to the compressor. After less than two years, it stopped cooling. Everything in the refrigerator/freezer spoiled. Repairmen wouldn’t touch it and refused to repair it due to the lawsuit. Went through LG, which took forever, to finally get it repaired and got compensation for the spoiled food. Three years later, problem arises again. Freezer no longer freezes, spoiled food and to fix it repairman asked for $1000. Owned it for less than 6 years. Don’t even consider this unit.

I was in love with the refrigerator when I first saw it! Having the door-in-door was wonderful for getting quick items, like butter and drinks. Sadly, after 4 years, the compressor gave out. We lost EVERYTHING in our freezer and refrigerator! Even though the compressor part was still covered under warranty (I had to fight with LG to get the proper authorization code for replacement), we STILL had to pay over $500 for the labor costs. We also had to go with the “recommended” list of LQ-authorized repair locations and waited over a week before the repairs could finally take place. Using a small dorm refrigerator for our entire family was not pleasant! We were grateful that everything was taken care of just before Thanksgiving – although losing all the food prepared for the holiday was a real disappointment.

Linear Compressor failure is a major problem with this model. Ours is only 4 years old, beware, 2 class action suits have already been settled. Difficult to get help from LG and waiting to get a tech out to replace/repair. Do your research!!

I love my fridge but once year 4 hit the compressor failed and had to have it fixed under warranty less then 8 months later and yet again another manufacturer issue and it’s not working. Thankfully still covered under warranty but when something else fails in another 8 months it will no longer be under warranty. Love the fridge but not the longevity for the price

I purchased my unit 5/16/17. Unit was manufactured 11/2016. We love the space, look and functionality of the fridge. The problem is after only 6 years, the compressor went out. The repairman (and Best Buy and LG) all acknowledge the in-line compressors LG uses has had major problems. So much so, LG extended the 5 year compressor warranty to 10 years. Might sound good at first but the cost to replace the compressor, dryer and condenser after 6 years and 1 month on a $1,900 fridge is $1,700. LG will cover the compressor only (no labor) which reduces the repair down to $1,100, still over 50% of what was paid. Two different repair shops said they have had a ton of business fixing the compressors. The inconvenience, food loss and money spent diagnosing… we are looking at buying a different brand rather than sinking an additional $1,100 into this fridge. I’ll stick with their TVs… fridge, I don’t recommend.

Almost made it to 5 years then died. Purchased 2018 and now it makes all sorts of noise and won’t hold a temp. Water has always leaked from the in door ice maker. Water outlet for the water dispenser points to side slightly. Fridge is junk now. Not worth the time and money to have fixed.

Nice fridge but after 4yrs water started to leak from handle corroding the stainless steel and peeling. Ice maker no longer makes ice after 6yrs and ice make stop working. For the price and brand we expected longer life span 10-15 is average. This fridge is 6yrs.

We purchased this refrigerator and enjoyed it at first, we’ve only had it 4 years. At one point the whole unit quit cooling both freezer and refrigerator. We lost hundreds of dollars of frozen and refrigerated food. We had a repair man come and replace the compressor which was the issue. It took him over a week to be able to come look at it. With in one week the unit quit cooling and freezing again. Once again making us throw out hundred dollars of food. Now we can’t get a technician for a week. This makes two weeks for us not to be able to keep any type of food that needs refrigeration or freezing.
