  1. PracticalSandy

This sand table comes extremely well packaged. Everything, including the glass cover, is well protected. It is great quality and seems very high-end (spa quality). The set up is very easy, you put the sand and the steel ball inside, turn it on, and it pretty much does the rest. The power cord is nice and long. It has controls on the base of the unit, but the phone app is wonderful – you can select speed, brightness, color, and patterns. It’s amazing how enjoyable watching the steel ball create patterns is – very calming. I have the sand table sitting on my desk next to my computer and it seems to reduce the stress of working on a screen constantly, and is relaxing just to have nearby. It’s also a great conversation piece to display, and is actually more of an “art” piece. The sand table is aesthetically beautiful and can truly have an impact on your mood. It helps your mind get clear of distractions and “escape” the normal every day stressors that can bring you down or drain your energy.

HoMedics is a well-known company that makes excellent wellness products, such as massagers and diffusers. I have wanted to do a sandscape meditation project for a long time, but I haven’t had time. It is great that HoMedics now has a sandscape table called Drift Meditation. Assembling the unit is simple, and it comes with two small sandbags, a comb/rake, a metal ball/sphere, and a very long (12 feet) power cord.
I love how the color light gets reflected on the sand. The app has various mesmerizing patterns to choose from, create or select a playlist of designs/patterns, control the drift ball’s speed, and control the color scheme and brightness. There are holiday patterns, like Christmas and Father’s day, and the app gets updated with new patterns you can download. I like that some patterns have written messages, such as “You are loved” and “Happy Father’s Day.” I hope the app designers can allow users to create patterns and add their own words. For now, I sometimes write myself messages on top of the glass with a color dry erase marker.
When the unit creates a pattern, the magnetic metal ball/sphere makes a continuous sort of faint grinding sound, which I find soothing. Whether listening to the ball rolling, watching, or both, the Drift promote calmness. Once in a while, when the sand accumulates on the rim/edges of the circle, I use the comb to spread the sand evenly, and then with the app, I play the clean pattern to reset the unit. The clean pattern can be used any time; basically, it spreads the sand evenly in a circular pattern. Overall, I am satisfied with this wellness Drift meditation table. It does help me a lot with the patterns, the metal ball drifting sound, and having messages in the pattern or me writing with a dry erase marker.

Simply, I love this thing. It does exactly what it is meant to. It does it well. Full stop.

The setup process is very easy, you will have zero issues. The “build” of everything seems solid and well-built. There is a glass top which is probably a good idea for most, but I really liked it more without it. Just something to note. Further, everything is easy to control via the app (there are some minimal manual controls as well), be it patterns, lighting, lists, schedules, etc…again, I don’t think it will be a problem for anyone.

As someone who has (slightly) ventured into the world of meditation and mindfulness over the past few years, this had immediate appeal to me. There is no doubt in my mind that this table helps with relaxation and helps encourage and promote mindfulness and mediation. Beyond that though, on a more basic level, it is just “fun” to watch and experience. On perhaps the most basic level, it is just a “cool” piece to have in your home. There are many ways to take value from this device.

Now, as to what value this has really comes down to the individual. I do really think everyone would benefit from having this sand table. It just works as a calming center. That said, some may not be willing to simply take the time. For some its value may just be home décor, and while I think that is a miss, it does also fill that role.

In the end, I love this device. It gives me exactly what I am looking for from it. Calm. Peace. Whatever you want to call it. Beyond that though, it is just fun, AND it looks good in my place as well. If it can lead to a friend or acquaintance also exploring mindfulness, then that is just a nice bonus.

The HoMedics drift sand table… will it take you to that zen place? I don’t know, but what I do know is it’s incredibly cool! If you plan to set this on an end table I would go with the 16” model as it’s a pretty big device. I have mine on a small end table and it pretty much takes up the whole table with room to put small items or a drink. The device is made of a polymer material for the base with a solid piece of glass for the top. To setup you simply pour the sand in, spread it around with the included tool, put the ball bearing in the middle and then connect the app.

When it comes to taking you to that blissful relaxing place, listening to it make designs is what I and others found relaxing. The app is how you control everything the device does, from making a design, the speed at which it’s made and the color of the lights. There are over 100 designs to choose from but you can’t make your own designs. Being able to make your own designs would definitely be a feature I would like to see added and feel it would make an already cool device that much cooler. The app itself is the weak point of the device, though it’s not bad it could be better. The biggest issue is when you turn the device off and connect to it again, the app sometimes doesn’t remember the settings such as what the lights were set at when it was turned off. The app is something that can easily be updated by HoMedics to remedy this and hopefully add the ability to make your own designs. If your looking for something that if nothing else is a conversation piece but is also relaxing to listen too, this is it.

The HoMedics Drift Sand Table not only brings the sandbox to the 21st century, it brings it indoors as well. There are two colors – cream and black, either of which fit with any decor.

Setup is simple – place the unit on your table, dump the sand in and rake it somewhat smooth, place the silver ball in the center, place the glass on the top and load the app. From the app you have a large selection of designs including many for holidays, control of design speed, playlists and light color and brightness..

Watching the silver ball create designs in the sand is nothing short of mesmerizing! I thought watching Tik-Tok videos took me away but this has it beat. Watching the designs build coupled with relaxing breathing techniques is incredibly relaxing.

Of course the app is available for both iPhone and Android but I also like that it is available for MacOs – which is really convenient if you happen to have the Drift in your office or workspace. You can program your favorite designs in a playlist that will continue to create designs or you can choose to stop after each one. You can also schedule on and off times. I do like that the Drift app doesn’t require you to create a log-in however, after a few days it does force you to register the product with personal info and there doesn’t seem to be a way around this. Also, the drift will work for anyone who has the app and can connect with the Drift’s bluetooth signal, although only one at a time. A point on the bluetooth – the device name is awkward and not clearly recognizable which could be an issue if there are many other devices around you, and there is no way to change it. I did experience an issue with the app, the save feature doesn’t stick for lighting colors, dimming and speed. Fortunately this isn’t that big a deal and could easily be fixed with an update.

If I’m being critical, I would have liked the Drift to include speakers so you can stream music, making one device to provide total relaxation. I would also like to see a design portion in the app to create your own designs if so inclined.

Overall, the Homedics Drift is a really cool device. I give it 5 stars and would absolutely recommend it to anyone with the means to get one.

Receiving this on my doorstep was a wonderful surprise. I wasn’t expecting it to be as large and heavy as it is. It will be far easier for you to set this up with a helping hand. Pulling it out of the box and setting it up was exciting because I have never gotten something like this.

I set it up on the table, poured the sand in, spread it around, added the ball, and turned it on. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth. I installed the app and connected to the table. I was quite surprised at all of the options for patterns available.

I have children, and two of them have anxiety issues. I thought this would be something they could spend some time with and relax. They really seem to enjoy it.

I was hoping to get the bigger model, but this was all they had left. I must say that it is far larger than I expected. I haven’t gotten a ruler or tape measure out, but I’m fairly certain the 16 inches is the internal diameter.

My only complaint is that it only connects via Bluetooth. I would be a little happier if it could connect over Wi-Fi. Every time I open the app to interact with it, I have to choose the device. I’d love to be able to add patterns to the table when I’m not home to surprise the family… I can still do it, but I have to do it before I leave the house.

I think in these times of stress at work, at home, pandemic remnants, financial worries, etc. we all need an outlet. This Meditation Sand Table has been something I look forward to almost daily once home from work. I have the 16 inch version but there is also a 21 inch round option. From the instant I received it and unboxed it, I could tell that this was going to make me happy. The packaging was solid and the table itself was secure. Unboxing it was simple and getting it set up was done within minutes. Basically, take all of the protective packaging off, sort it all out in front of you and decide where you are going to put it. Spreading the fine sand with the included hand rake made that final step a snap. I thinned it all out evenly and put the glass over the top.

Once that was all done, I downloaded the app and created my account, etc. and powered on the table. I was able to pair it via bluetooth on the first attempt and right away it let me know that it needed to run a firmware update. The download and restart of the table was done within just a couple of minutes. Using my phone, I went through a few of the designs that the table can make and hit play on one. Instantly, the steel ball started moving, the lights were changing colors gradually and my design began to come to life!

There are a lot of designs to choose from, you can create playlists or just pick one at a time. It does seem as though there will be frequent updates to what is available so you can match them to certain occasions. After getting used to what I could do, I put on some music that I like and sat there and watched it go for quite a while. Picture sitting next to it on the sofa with soft music playing while you read a book or do your other favorite relaxing activity. Simply awesome!

  8. BIGASN

What a cool meditation device and conversation starter. When I first heard about this Drift meditation table, I didn’t know what to think, but a metal ball drawing intricate images in the sand is pretty awesome in and of itself. The Drift Meditation Sand Table isn’t really a table, but more like a large bowl that should sit on top of a table. I was initially worried about my cat getting in and making a mess of things, but there’s a glass cover that fits over the bowl to encapsulate the sand and ball. It just rests on top though, so it’s still a good idea to keep it out of reach from little kids. Setup is a breeze, as all you have to do is pour the pouch of sand directly on the felt, drop the metal ball in, place the glass cover on top and plug it in. There’s a power button on the bowl itself, but you’ll need to download the app to change the images it creates, the lighting effects, and the ball speed. You can even create image playlists, which is pretty neat. I had trouble uploading some of the app images to the “table” as they wouldn’t upload, and I’m still not sure why. There’s already a bunch of images uploaded to the table, so I haven’t tried calling customer support about it yet, but it’s worth noting. I was kind of hoping that it would play meditation sounds like ocean waves or a calm rain, but it doesn’t and to be fair, it doesn’t advertise that it does either. It’s just a really cool bowl that magically brings an artistic steel ball to life to draw images in the sand. I’m honestly not sure if it helps me meditate at all, but it does bring me to a state of wonderment and calm when I relax and watch it do its thing. I keep the playlist running, so it’s kind of like checking in on a creative roommate to see what they’re making now. Overall, it’s a bit pricey and not a table at all, but it is really cool and a great room feature to show off to guests. If you’re looking to add something cool and unique to your place, or want to add some chill vibes to a room, definitely check out this table.

I must have got a defective or broken one since other reviews seem mostly positive. Either that or my android phones just aren’t compatible. I actually tried three different generations of phones and none worked right. I naturally started with my current android phone which works fine with all other apps I have tried but this device failed miserably.

My newest phone ran the app fine though the app did seem a little quirky and not the easiest to use perhaps because it just wouldn’t control the drift like it should have. This was using the previous version of the app which was the newest at the time. It showed the device as connecting via bluetooth and would power it off/on and occasionally change the colors of the light when requested but not always. It also updated the drift firmware (or at least seemed to) fine but that was it. None of the patterns or other controls would actually work. The little ball would sometimes wiggle a bit and you could sometimes hear noises from it but it just seemed stuck. It did sometimes start the default cleanup pattern when first powered up but that seemed independent of the app. I tried all the resets and troubleshooting methods suggested in the instructions but nothing worked.

So then I tried my old android phone but had the same result. I even tried my older phone but the app wouldn’t even open on it. I finally decided to give up and wait for an update to the app which did occur recently in Aug (2022). I powered it up and it finally did one pattern which was different (though I hadn’t chosen it) and that was it. The app went right back to the previous behavior with no control of the device except on/off and some color control. The device really is pretty useless without the app unless you need a giant ashtray or a fancy litterbox for your cat though you would likely need more sand for those uses.

For a device advertised as soothing and calming mine has had the opposite effect. It has been frustrating and made me grumpy instead. The only soothing effect might be smashing it with a hammer or throwing it into a brick wall but it has wasted enough of my time already. Maybe I’ll just let my cat poop in it.

Zen is the word !Let me start by saying this thing is beautiful! It was even more beautiful than I hoped for in looking at all the pictures and information online.

There really is no “installation”. You basically empty the sand on to the unit, place the ball where the magnet grabs it. I did actually take the rake and smooth and even out the sand around the unit. You then place the glass cover on it. It is very high quality, not just a cheap glass cover. I got the black unit so the glass cover has a very nice black border on it.

Setup is easy, you connect to the unit with Bluetooth. Once connected you have so many configuration options available to you. You have the “Player” which the screen shows you what is playing and gives you the options to pause between patterns, shuffle patterns, control the speed, brightness and color selection.

When selecting colors, you have the standard color circle where you move the cursor and tap to add a variety of colors. You can then select how often they change and even choose a “breathing” option so that the colors seem to breathe from darker to lighter. Very Cool !

Next you can create “playlists” from individual patterns. Patterns are the next section and you can go and download groups of patterns. So basically, go to patterns first, download a bunch of them and experiment with what you like. Once you find a few that you like, you can create a playlist of them. To be honest, this thing is mesmerizing! The number of possibilities and combinations are endless. You literally find yourself staring at it, and your heart rate lessens and you relax ( at least for me it did!).

The settings tab on the app allows you to select a Dark Theme ( which I prefer). You can also set a schedule by each day if you like. This is nice because you can have it turn on minutes before you go into your office area ( where I have it) and start patterns and then have it automatically stop when you normally end your day.

I am on conference calls all day every day. This provides me real peace when days are stressful. I find myself taking pics of new patterns and sending them to the wife and kids while I work..lol

While it is a bit pricy, it is an amazing thing. It does come with a little rake if you want to rake the sand yourself but it’s so much cooler watching it create the beautiful designs.

I am really happy I got this, it’s an amazing addition to my office. My wife wants me to put it on a coffee table downstairs so we can enjoy other times as well !

I would recommend this and love it!

I was on the fence about reviewing the HoMedics drift table, but after having it for a week I have a few things to say about it, so let’s get into it.

My first thought about the table was of course why anyone would pay the asking price for something that seems useless. The table doesn’t do anything but draw patterns that you pick via your phone on sand using a small ball. How will this enhance my well-being or bring me happiness and tranquility? Well, the long and short of it is that this table does something unique and quite well.

Setting up the drift is pretty easy. You get a bag of sand with the 16inch unit, a sand rake, a ball, a glass top, and of course the bowl. Pour the sand into the bowl, rake it a bit to spread it out evenly, put the ball on the table and place the glass on top. That’s it, now you’re ready to plug it in and download the drift app to control it.

Once you get the app set up on your phone, you’ll be able to download different patterns and playlists of patterns as well as have the ability to adjust the LED brightness, LED colors, and speed of the ball. Pairing your phone app with the table is pretty straightforward, except that on my iPhone the device shows up as “KSXXXXXX” unlike on my wife’s Android phone where it does come up as a HoMedics drift table. Only one device can be connected to the unit at a time and you’ll have to choose the table every time you launch the application. I’ve also received several “app updates” which are firmware updates to the table. I’m not sure what they’ve done as no notes are provided, but I’m assuming they are patches to fix bugs, etc.

Once you pick a pattern or a playlist, the little ball goes to work making it. You can hear the ball rolling through the sand at medium speed if you’re in a quiet setting. Turn up the speed to 100% and the unit definitely emits some noise, but it’s neither too loud nor distracting. I’ve heard some complaints about the noise, but in my setting, it’s hardly noticeable.

Watching the pattern being created is uniquely satisfying and being able to pick from so many different patterns is a plus. Choosing from patterns such as fractals, flowers, spiral designs, and even holiday-themed patterns is a great addition to an already mesmerizing experience. The finished sand drawing is very intricate and extremely accurate, which seems to surprise me every time. While there are many designs to choose from, I would love to see HoMedics continue to add designs and playlists to enhance the user experience.

This table is what I’d consider a luxury item, but in the right setting and for the right person that appreciates the soothing relaxation that a device like this can bring, the HoMedics drift may be well worth the investment. This unit is currently sitting on my coffee table and looks at home there with its black finish and colorful lighting. I’m positive that this device would complement any living room, office, or waiting room and will turn some heads and be a conversation piece wherever it’s placed.

  12. 2leo2

Set up was simple. Everything, especially the sand, was packaged extremely securely. The app is very user friendly. There are thousands of sand designs to choose from on the app, just connect it via blue-tooth and watch the magic happen. LED lights around the inside edges of the table make for a relaxing ambiance. It only took one time for me to be convinced that the patterns made by the little magnetic ball were perfect to the last detail compared to the picture on the app. I will say that I do get connection issues sometimes where the app would not sync with the sand table. This renders the table unusable and that gets annoying. There is a power button and a color changing button on the table, and unless you download pattern onto the table, it seems like the power button doesn’t star the pattern making process.

As long as you are connected via blue-tooth, the sand table is a wonder and a must-have for the zen room. The only thing missing would be built-in bluetooth speakers. That would bring the whole package

  13. Stylian

Our lives can be so busy and complicated and it’s not always so convenient to find time for ourselves or for our mind. What I love about HoMedics – drift is that it just sits there and makes the designs you picked out, at the speed you decided at the time you set for it. If you know that family time is between 1pm to 4pm set it to start and finish at that time. The app is fantastic! Also colors, do you like them bright or very passive? You can again design the color palette and brightness.
When you have guests they will definitely take notice of it. We put ours on a table in our family room and cut a small hole on the carpet to pass the charging wire underneath the carpet. It looks great and really unless you know you don’t even see the cord.
Any negative? The only thing that I don’t like is the little ball does make a noise when it’s making its intricate designs especially if you have it making them at a high speed.
Overall it’s a very serene fun amazing technology that can relax you.

  14. Zeppelin33

This is such a cool gadget. It’s absolutely gorgeous. Never seen anything like this before. It’s very mesmerizing and soothing to just watch the patterns build.
It was so easy to set up too. Basically just pour the sand in, flatten it out a little, plug it in and turn it on. It starts making the default clearing pattern right away.
You’ll need the app to load the patterns, customize the pattern playlist and set it up but you can just use the front panel buttons to turn it on or off and change colors once you give it some patterns to run. We set a playlist up with about 30 of our favorite patterns and just turn it on when we’re on the couch. A perfect conversation piece, we have it sitting prominently on our coffee table. Anyone who has been over has really loved it. The lighting is great and can be run either lit up or not.
Some of the designs are so intricate, it’s mind blowing how it can possibly even be done. Whoever came up with this is a genius.
You can also stop the ball from moving if you want the leave one of the designs there for a while and keep it lit.Press the power button once to just stop the ball, press and hold to turn it off. The other button is the color change button and if you press that once, it will cycle through about 5 different colors each press. Hold that one in and it shuts the light off, while the ball keeps moving.
My fiancé and I both have the app installed on our phones but only one can connect at a time to it. But it works from either of our phones as long as the other isn’t connected to it.

This is just really, really cool and it surely won’t disappoint.

  15. Crasher

The HoMedics is a pretty nice feature to add as a center piece or coffee table piece that offers both unique style and home mediation properties. The RGB lighting offers different colors and effects which can be set depending on the mood.

Out of the box you receive the main bowl, sand, comb, glass top, metal ball, and power cable. There is a free app that is needed as well in order to utilize the different patterns. Set up is easy and pain free leaving no mess. Simply place the bowl at your desired location, pour the sand inside, use the provided rake to evenly spread the sand and then place the metal ball in the center and plug it in. The set up is very basic and straight forward. Through the app you can set your different colors and effects. Sand designs can also be chosen from the different pre-set patterns. As far as i could tell there was no option to create your own patterns so you were forced to use their patterns. There is a decent amount of designs to choose from including holiday themed designs that say “#1 dad” or stockings hanging for Christmas. They do have additional patterns designs that you can download as well keeping the patterns feeling fresh and new. Once the desired pattern is selected the built in magnet will locate the metal ball and start to create the design. Design speed as well as brightness can all be adjusted from the main menu. You also have a the ability to set up deferent playlist and schedules as well. For example you can choose to have 4 different designs playing on a loop so that there is always something going on. Or you can choose to have the ball stop after each design is completed so that you can admire it for a bit. Also after each design is created there is no need to smooth the sand out again as the metal ball will reset the canvas each time a new pattern is created. It will simply just write over the existing background based on the new design. Even though it writes over the existing background it does it in a way that does not hinder or take away from the quality of the new design. The writing on the sand does provide a kind of ASMR effect and the added RGB lighting helps to set the mood in a dark room or atmosphere. The only thing i would of loved to see implemented in this design is a built in speaker to allow for sounds to be played such as binaurals for sleeping. Place this underneath a T.V., while watching a movie with the RGB lighting on and you’ve got yourself a nice relaxing night.

  16. Lumbrazy

I got this item with my employee discount and it was still very pricy. Id probably be willing to pay $160-200 for this item for what it includes, not the listed price

  17. MoeA

Didn’t work as good and only works from the app not Bluetooth so if your out of town and notice on your home camera It’s been left on you can’t turn it off

  18. ChristoferM

It’s is very cool and interesting, the only draw backs are it’s expensive and the whole thing is plastic besides the top that’s glass, and the app could use a lot of work like better updates or a way to add a custom image but overall definitely worth the on sale price

  19. LeeD

I love this. It’s very quiet. So easy to put together. So easy to link to your phone & control. There are so many different beautiful patterns to choose from once you download the app to your phone, then it automatically links to your drift, (your phone has to be close to your drift to link) then you click on it & go searching for your favorites to download. I love that I can set a pattern playlist, I can also control the speed. I also love the mix of colors. This is a perfect gift for someone who enjoys relaxing & watching beauty come to life.
**I wouldn’t suggest it be in reach of children younger than school age who could bump it, knock it over, or break the glass top.

  20. Case

So meditative. Very relaxing and looks good in any room

  21. SteveR

Amazing gift! My wife loves the different designs she can create and it’s very relaxing to watch. Super easy setup and easy to use.

  22. Bestbuyjunkie

Absolutely love it. So does everyone who visits. Well worth the price.

  23. IZZI

I have been wanting one of these for years but was unable to justify the price of a different brand.
I saw this available and (at the time it was on sale) and decided to purchase it.
There are already hundreds of designs and more keep being added.

As mentioned in the title, this is my go to gift idea.

  24. MichelleG

So bummed! The concept of this is really cool & I loved it while it was fully functioning for 24 hours. However, I noticed on day 2 the white felt piece of fabric the sand sits on top of was pulled off of the surface below creating a bump/wrinkle in the design & ruining the whole pattern. The magnet is so strong it pulled the fabric off of the below surface. Also, the app really stinks! There were many patterns that had a status of downloaded and when I tried to play them, the drift would just go in circles. Frustrating! Left me in a non meditative state…haha

  25. BobLoblaw

So it’s not bad. Would say it’s good. Word up l almost there.

  26. CherylS

Very nice. Love the product. My grandson is very pleased.

  27. Bostonmatt

I actually got this at Bed Bath and Beyond out of business sales half off and its a really cool item, however was surprised setting this up that the bowl itself is heavy plastic, not metal or clay or anything really heavy, its a lither plastic which I was shocked at, since this looks more like metal of some sort. The set up is easy, download the app on iphone or android, place the bowl on a table or flat surface, pour in sand, rake it evenly and put metal ball in center and start the app with a design. The app is cool, you can download various patters, change the colors, set up a schedule and even control speed of ball and color changing. IT would of been nice if there was some sort of white noise or noise config with this, but its fine. Watching the ball do its work is pretty mesmerizing and is cool how it moves. Not sure however if this item is worth the price point, I mean I paid half price and it was still outrageous for what you get. But still worth the buy.

Drift is so relaxing to watch and unwind. Unfortunately the cost is the downfall.

Super cool! I’ve had it in my cart for two years contemplating this purchase just fighting myself day in and out over justification. Finally got it and I just wish I got the bigger one now. I’m sure I’ll buy another one of these days but for now, very content.

It’s a ball in sand that goes round and round and draws relaxing images. Weird thing is it drew a mushroom the first day…

Didn’t come with a steel ball. Pretty disappointed after spending so much money for this not be packaged properly and it doesn’t give me much hope that it will stand up as a quality product in that regard. After watching some you tube videos I saw that ours was packaged completely different with none of the molded packaging inserts like in the videos. I also saw that they had a specific little paper that surrounded the ball insuring it’s specific space with in the packaging. Nothing like that in our box.

Bought this for my wife. We can set the design and watch it for hours. Great for stressful moments and times you just want to relax. Easy to setup. Easy app and 100’s of preset designs. A bit pricey but worth it in my opinion.
